MINA-CM

Madrid Innovative Neurotech Alliance, state-of-the-art neurotechnological solutions in the Community of Madrid

The MINA-CM P2022-BMD-7236 project is funded by the Community of Madrid as part of the 2022 Biomedicine R&D grants call and will run from 2023 to 2025.

MINA-CM brings together a large consortium of top-level researchers from the Community of Madrid, complemented and integrated with patient associations, a social services entity, tech companies, a foundation for the development of biomedical entrepreneurship and the consortium of international network services EBRAINS, providing the social dimension and economic and business translation.

Madrid Innovative Neurotech Alliance (MINA-CM) has as its ultimate goal the innovation, development and application of cutting-edge neurotechnological solutions in the Community of Madrid. MINA-CM’s transformative vision is to revolutionize the treatment of brain injury, stroke and other neurological conditions such as neurodegenerative pathologies through advances in neuroprotection, targeted neuroplasticity, as well as the development of neural devices to restore or improve sensory and motor function, brain stimulation and cognitive rehabilitation and enhancement.

MINA-CM is organized around 5 neurotechnological areas representative of the challenges facing our society:

  1. Neuromodulation and brain neurostimulation: invasive and non-invasive stimulation. Stimulation to prevent/delay frailty and cognitive impairment. Effect of exercise.
  2. Brain imaging: New combined techniques and new algorithms based on structural and functional aspects to improve diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities.
  3. Advanced neuroprosthesis: Neural interfaces. Cellular/molecular and robotic systems for sensory, motor or cognitive function replacement. Brain-computer interfaces.
  4. Biga data and machine learning: Recording, collection and analysis of brain data.
  5. Advanced molecular and cellular neurotherapy: New neuroprotective and neuroregenerative targets and treatments.

The impact of MINA-CM has other application horizons:

  • Attraction and incorporation of exceptional young researchers to R&D in neurotechnology in the Community of Madrid.
  • Reinforcement and enhancement of the participation of the Community of Madrid in international R&D networks and consortiums in neurotechnology.
  • Incorporation and integration of high-tech companies in a network of R&D&I in neurotechnology in the Region of Madrid, to attract national and international funding.
