Master’s Thesis

Details of the criteria, procedures and methodologies for the evaluation of the Final Master’s Thesis (TFM) can be found in the “Final Master’s Thesis Regulations”.

As a summary, and in line with the regulations in force for the other TFM of the current ETSIT degrees, the TFM report must be written in English. The degree committee that will academically regulate the TFM will be the Academic Committee of the Master’s Degree in Neurotechnology. The appointment and assignment of the examining board that will evaluate the TFM will be made by the Academic Committee of the Master’s Degree in Neurotechnology. Those who are tutors or lecturers of a TFM will not be allowed to be part of the examining board. At least 5 registered TFM, or fraction thereof, will be assigned to each examining board.

In order for a student to request an exam, he/she may have, at most, 30 ECTS pending. To start the evaluation process, the student must make an exam request for his/her TFM. This request is made by depositing the TFM memory in the application available for this purpose on the ETSIT website.

In the exam, the student will have 15 minutes for the presentation of the work, after which the members of the examining board will discuss with the student and ask the questions they deem appropriate to judge the quality of the TFM. The presentation will take place in public session and in English.

After the exam, the members of the examining board will prepare an individual report on different aspects of the work (structure, methodology, originality, integration of knowledge, correctness in writing, use of bibliography, etc.) and of the presentation (clarity of the presentation, adequate use of resources, oral communication, rigor in the debate with the examining board, etc.).

The tutors, and, if applicable, the co-tutors and the speakers may attend the reading and present to the examining board a report on their assessment of the work done by the student, but they may not be present at the deliberation for the grade. The examining board will decide whether the deliberation of each TFM presented will be carried out individually or whether it will be finalized after the defense of all the works assigned to the examining board in the call. After the deliberation, the examining board will proceed to the grading of the TFM which will be: Outstanding, Outstanding, Pass and Fail, with the corresponding score.
